Mr Abraham Koomson, the Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has urged the management of Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) to pay their workers’ overdue salaries.

He highlighted that in the current harsh economic climate, ATL workers have not received their salaries for two months.

Mr. Koomson expressed concern over the state of Akosombo Textiles Limited, a factory he believes could have significantly benefited the country if it had received the necessary support from the government.

He noted that the lack of salary payments has reduced worker productivity and motivation.

However, with Vice President Dr. Bawumia scheduled to visit the area, management is now attempting to address the issue.

The unionist called on the government to pay urgent attention to the struggling textiles industry, warning that these companies are on the brink of collapse.

He specifically mentioned the Ghana Textiles Printing (GTP) company as one needing critical intervention. Mr. Koomson alleged that the government plans to sell GTP to foreign investors, a move he believes would negatively impact the country.

Shockingly, an online search revealed that GTP and another textile brand, Woodin, have allegedly already been sold.

According to reports, Actis, a private equity firm with $4.8 billion in managed funds, has acquired the Vlisco Group, which produces GTP and Woodin.

Actis reportedly paid $151 million for full control of the Vlisco Group, as announced in a press release.

Mr. Koomson accused the government of deliberately neglecting the textiles industry to facilitate the sale of these companies to their associates.

He claimed that these plans are detailed in the controversial Agyapadie Document.

Mr. Koomson commended the Ghanaian media for their keen interest in the Agyapadie Document, which is rumoured to list the country’s assets.

He described the document as dangerous and called for the prosecution of those involved with it

He spoke on Lashibi-based Ahotor FM’s.
