Premium Bank supports GH¢2.5m TidyUp waste transfer station

Premium Bank, through its business support arm the HelpStation, has assisted waste management company, TidyUp, to expand its business.

The HelpStation assisted TidyUp in their service delivery by financing the purchase of a waste compaction truck and other equipment for their business.

TidyUp's solid waste transfer station uses state-of-the-art German made waste compaction and recycling machines to help rid the country from filth.

With the support from Premium Bank’s Help Station, TidyUp was able to complete the construction of its Waste Transfer Station and develop its business management and operations model.

The HelpStation is a vibrant SME business support and entrepreneurship development initiative of Premium Bank.

Its focus is to provide businesses with an unparalleled support service, a high level of engagement and capacity building aimed at ensuring their growth, resilience and competitiveness.

According to the Managing Director (MD) of Premium Bank Mr Kwasi Tumi, his outfit started doing business with TidyUp Ghana Limited some months ago because other financial institutions failed to give them the assistance they needed.

“Our paths crossed with TidyUp Ghana Limited, the managers of this Waste Transfer Station less than 10 months ago when no Bank or financial institution they (TidyUp) had approached, was willing to take a chance on them,” Mr Tumi said.

He added at that time, TidyUp could not provide financial statements in the conventional manner accustomed to by banks and Financial Institutions and did not have collateral so it was difficult for them to get the financial support they needed.

“However, we saw a potential in the business, and leveraging on our experience and expertise, offered what in our opinion was the support needed through our business delivery channel, HelpStation, and the end result is what has brought us here together today,” Mr Tumi explained.

On his part, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TidyUp, Steven Kofi Ampofo said solid waste management has over the years been an albatross around the neck of city authorities in Ghana.

“The huge piles of solid waste pose grave risks to human life and the environment. TidyUp is here to change the status quo by turning this enclave into a waste industrial park. We would recycle papers, cardboards, plastics, Styrofoam and convert PET bottles into flakes and mould them back into bottles. We would also recycle glass and use it for sand paper,” Mr Ampofo assured.

Accra alone generates about 3000 tonnes of solid waste per day. Out of this figure only about 70% is collected and only a fraction is recycled.

He commended the HelpStation for their continues support to TidyUp.

“Through the HelpStation, Premium Bank has provided TidyUp unparalleled financial and support service to get us where we are today. I am indeed very grateful that TidyUp got the opportunity to benefit from Premium Bank’s vibrant SME business support and entrepreneurship development initiative,” Mr Ampofo said.
