Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has observed that Public-Private Partnership (PPP) was the major key to economic boost and successful national development.

According to the MCE, the private sector played a vital role in the development of every economy.

Mr Oppong made the observation in a speech read on his behalf by Mr Peter Antwi Boasiako, Agona West Municipal Coordinating Director at the commissioning of a bio gas place of convenience for residents of Yarewa Zongo at Agona Swedru.

The facility was constructed by Onua-Onua, Private Waste Management Consultant based in Accra in partnership with the Agona West Municipal Assembly.

This is the third facility of a Waste Management Company in the Municipality that can be used to produce gas in commercial quantity.

The MCE said the Assembly entered into the partnership to ensure sound environmental sanitation, and the production of gas to enable the Assembly step up its revenue generation

He said government alone could not provide all the social amenities, hence the need to partner the private sector to provide those facilities to reduce the financial burden on the State.

The MCE said the company would run the facility for some time, until the cost of the project was paid before the Assembly could take full control.

He asked the residents of the Yarewa Zongo to patronize the facility to help pay for the cost.

The MCE assured the residents that the Assembly would use the remaining funds in the budget to construct a community centre, and also purchase plastic chairs and tables to furnish the centre.

He commended the chiefs and the people of Yarewa Zongo for their massive support for Mr Haruna Sanni, assembly man for the area who was elected unopposed in the recent district level elections.

Mr Kofi Apraku, Management Member of Onua-Onua Waste Management Company, advised the residents, especially cigarette smokers, not to smoke while using the facility, to avoid explosion because it contained gas.

He pledged that management would continue to partner the Assembly to construct more of such bio-gas toilets in the Municipality, to ensure sound environmental sanitation and gas production.

Nana Mohaamed Bashiru, Chief of Yarewa Zongo, thanked the Assembly for the provision of social amenities to improve the living standards of the people.

Mr Haruna Sanni, Assemblyman-elect, commended the Assembly for the construction of storm drains, educational facilities, roads and a community centre in the area..

He urged government to put in place effective mechanisms to create jobs for the unemployed youth within the Zongo community.
