Prudential Life Insurance Ghana held its inaugural cycling event, PruRide Accra, a 99.7km urban cycling race on Sunday the 24th of November 2019 at the Black Star Square with over 200 cyclists participating in the event.

PruRide Accra was inspired by Prudential RideLondon, a 100-mile cycle race that follows the London Olympic Cycle Route. It is the largest annual cycling festival in the world and is sponsored by London-based Prudential Plc. The PruRide Accra cycling event was aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, highlighting cycling as a sport and also to raise funds for charity.

Proceeds from ticket sales, donor and sponsorship contributions will go to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the KorleBu Teaching Hospital. The purpose of which is to perform corrective open heart surgery for children with congenital heart diseases whose families cannot afford the lifesaving surgery.

The winner of the 99.7km professional race, Frank Akuffo, and the winner of the 30km amateur race, Alexander Allotey, each received an all-expense paid trip to Ride London 2020 with spending money, fitness trackers and trophies.

Some of the partners for the cycling event included Media partners, the Multimedia Group whose dial 99.7 for Joy FM was used for the professional race, the Ghana Cycling Federation and event organizers Carbon AV. The event was also supported by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the Ghana Police, the British High Commission, Fidelity Bank, Special Ice mineral water, Lou Moon Lodge, Fitrip Gym, Nyaho Medical Centre, Decathlon, and Digital Resolution Press.

Kofi Yiadom, Vice President of the Ghana Cycling Federation said “We are glad to partner and support Prudential Life Insurance Ghana in its efforts to promote cycling in Ghana.
