PwC sets up GH¢100,000 endowment fund

PwC has set up a GH¢100,000 endowment fund for the advancement of quality education at Accra Academy, one of the prestigious second cycle institutions in the country.

Felix Addo, Country Senior Partner of PwC and an old student of the institute (Bleoo ’73), made the donation at the school’s 84th Speech and Prize-giving Day celebrations.

The 1984 year-group, which sponsored the ceremony, also handed over a GH¢40,000 refurbished clinic to the school and assured that supply of drugs and maintenance of the clinic will be its responsibility.

Dr. Bernard Tei Dornoo, a medical doctor and legal consultant -- an old student (Bleoo ’84), called on the Ministry of Education to put in place policy guidelines regarding the practice of religion and protection of students’ rights in second cycle institutions.

He said that it is necessary to govern the conduct of students and staff, and ensure that students who believe in a particular religion do not do things to infringe on the rights of others.

He urged students to be guided by the common purposes of being in school, which he mentioned as to “formulate character, build integrity, and build and uphold a sense of responsibility toward the country”.

Headmaster of the school, Samuel Ofori-Adjei, stated that despite the many successes the school has chalked up, it still faces many challenges which need urgent attention – and he appealed for support to rehabilitate the dining hall, some student halls, science blocks and staff bungalows.
