Qatar Airways set for Ghana?

Reports indicate that Qatar Airways has applied to the Ghana government for an official license to commence operations in the country.

Qatar Airways, based in Doha, will be seeking for an approval from the Ghana government to fly daily from Doha to Accra, as part of efforts to deepen relationship with the Ghana government.

Indications are that government is on the verge of granting the airline permission, which will see it commence operations by the third quarter of this year.

The move will increase passenger flight destinations of the airline to 78 from a previous 77. The entry of Qatar Airways into the country is expected to further enhance the airline industry in the country, which appears to have experienced some hitches following the exit of Lufthansa Airlines due to the expiration of their bilateral services Agreement.

Qatar Airways is based in Doha, Qatar, it operates a hub and spoke network based in Doha and is one of only five airlines in the world with a Five Star ranking for service and excellence awarded by Skytrax, an independent aviation industry monitoring agency.

It recently got permission to fly into the North American market and after an initial rejection to operate in Australia, it was successful in Mid-March 2007 and won rights to fly daily to Melbourne.
