The RLG Communications in collaboration with the National Youth Employment Prograame (NYEP), has so far trained 24,000 youth in Information Communication Technology (ICT) programme, throughout the country.

Beneficiaries went through training in computer, mobile phone hardware and software repairs, general electronics and entrepreneurship, under a six-month NYEP-ICT training module.

Addressing graduation ceremony for 515 trainees from the Western Region, who had completed the training programme at the RLG Institute of Technology, at Fijai, on Monday, Mr. Isaac Appiah, Head of the Institute, said the training had adequately equipped the beneficiaries to set up their own businesses.

He said the graduates included 7,134 beneficiaries, who were trained in ICT throughout the country this year, and were presented with start-up kits, and certificates.

Mr. Appiah noted that the RLG was happy to partner government in training the youth in ICT, to make them financially-independent, and help reduce poverty and unemployment in the country.

He said: "We have decided to begin the process of expanding our training facilities to ensure that more youth in the country' can gain access to ICT education and training".

Mr. Appiah said, currently, the company had 46 training centres dotted across the country, and hoped to increase the number to ensure easy access to the training by all Ghanaians, irrespective of one's location, background or financial status.

He said the RLG Institute of Technology had started a special training for some beneficiaries of the ICT Module, so that after the programme, they would be employed as facilitators and instructors at the Institute.

The Western Regional Coordinator of the National Youth Authority, Mr Emmanuel Papa Assan, reiterated government's determination to improve the living condition of the people, and asked the youth to take advantage of the programme and acquire employable skills.

He asked beneficiaries of the programme to make meaningful use of the knowledge acquired to enable them to contribute to national development.
