Dear Sir/Madam,
I write in relation to the above news item that you culled from the 'Financial Intelligence' and which appeared on ghanaweb today. In the article, I was quoted to have said "..that given the way price of basic commodities such as tomato fluctuates in Ghana according to the seasons, the central bank needs to use the module to tighten the fiscal regime in order to curb inflation"
I wish to categorically deny any such statement during the AGI seminar. I drew attention to the need to also focus on food inflation to ensure that seasonal factors do not add to the pressure on inflation.
In view of the several uncomplimentary emails and reactions I am receiving now, I urgently urge you to delete that paragraph that was written by Mr. Adoboe. In its place, you can say,
"...A representative of the central bank Johnson Asiama, explained that the central bank analyses a wide range of data before fixing the prime rate. He suggested that efforts must also be directed at addressing food inflation (particularly, prices of vegetables, fish and smoked herrings etc. ) to ensure that such seasonal factors exert less pressure on headline inflation".
I urge you to effect this changed immediately, because I am receiving too many embarassing emails as well as backlashes from within. I trust that you will attend to this with utmost urgency.
Many thanks.
Dr. Johnson Asiama
