Ms Hannah Tetteh, Minister of Trade and Industry, had said real trade opportunities existed in the country and that there was the need for one to be innovative to identify the prospects.
She said this when she paid a familiarization tour of the Raanan Fish Feed West Africa Limited, a fish feed production company at Prampram in the Greater Accra Region.
The visit was to acquaint herself with the operations of the company and to see at first hand the production processes.
Ms Tetteh said many companies in the country were owned by foreigners who took advantage of the numerous opportunities available and had made good investments to benefit the entire society.
She said fish farming is one of the most profitable ventures and that the business of producing fish feed, which was the first of its kind was an important investment to the country saying it would reduce the importation of feed by fish farmers.
Ms Tetteh said the initiative would transform the aquaculture sector and would help ensure food security which was crucial for the development of the country saying “the best investment to have in the country is to have food security.”
Mr. Raanan Berzak, Director of the Company, said the factory was established to meet the demand for feed in the country’s fast growing fishing industry.
He said “we realised the business potential in the fish sector and set up the company to help meet the demand” and that the company would encourage more people to venture into fish farming as there was available feed to meet their needs, and there would be no need to spend money importing fish feed.**
