Registrar General Open's office in Sekondi

Sekondi, Sept 24, GNA - Papa Owusu Ankomah, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, said on Friday that globalisation and competition in the global market demanded that government provided structures that were comparable with other competitors.

''This will enable us attract trade and investments with the objective of promoting economic growth, creating new jobs, industries and improving the quality of life of the people.''

Papa Owusu Ankomah, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, said this at the opening of the first regional office of the Registrar General's Department at Sekondi.

He said the government, in its desire to promote the golden age of business, commerce, industry and private enterprises, aimed at achieving a great deal of influence in improving the economy and the lives of Ghanaians.

Papa Owusu Ankomah said the opening of the regional branch in Sekondi would reduce long distance travel, time and cost and ensure an increase in businesses nationwide.

He said the department has now computerised all its data on businesses, companies and partnerships and such databases have become credible and readily accessible to the public.

Mr Joseph B. Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister, appealed to the Registrar General to make resources available to support the new Western Regional Office.

Nana Kobina Nkestia, IV, Paramount chief of Essikadu who chaired the function, said without decentralisation the country would be doomed and commended Papa Owusu Ankoma for the initiative. 24 Sept 04
