Customs World promises massive transformation in Ghana’s ports

A six-member team from Customs World led by the Chairman and CEO of DP World, Ahmed bin Sulayem has paid courtesy calls on the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufu-Addo and the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the Flagstaff house few days after concluding arrangements to take over West Blue Consulting-Ghana.

The visit afforded the company which has taken over West Blue consulting to provide technical support to Ghana Customs to brief the president and his Vice about the system they would be putting in place to make Ghana’s port one of the best in the world and meet international standards.

The Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, Ahmed bin Sulayem assured of a massive transformation of Ghana’s ports following the take over from West Blue consulting who are the technical support providers for the customs division of the GRA.

According to him, DP world intends to deploy high level technology in the clearance chain to optimize efficiency.

“Technology is very important, and the best system to be deployed is very important, and so with that, we believe it will help cargo, it will help the transhipment it will help linking people so that eventually, every transaction will move very smoothly and at the end of the day, this will reduce the goods for the end user,” he emphasized.

Ahmed bin Sulayem said systems that have successfully been used in the port of Dubai would be introduced in Ghana to reduce the cost and time of doing business at the port and increase Government’s revenue.

“The investment we have in this company will be the vehicle to introduce and develop systems that will allow people in the logistics, in cargo business to be able to communicate with each other and final transactions in record time. We are utilising a system that we developed in Dubai and we are handling millions of documents every year in Dubai,” he said.

The CEO of Customs World, Faisal Eissa Lutfi said the company will build a unique model for Ghana that will address Ghana’s challenges at its ports.

Customs World recently signed an agreement to take over West Blue Ghana Limited, the company engaged for the provision of the National Single Window and Risk Management System in Ghana.

The takeover by Ports and Customs World Ghana will automate Customs, Free Zones and Port Processes in Ghana and also build Ghana’s capacities through the application of technology and services that will mirror the operational model in Dubai.
