The self-help 4-kilometer road from Chaang to Janguasi in the Nadowli-Kaleo District is almost completed.

The road when completed is expected to help support the transportation of foodstuffs from the area to the marketing centres in the Chaang area.

Chaang is a farming community of about 2000 human population and without a road linking the community to Janguasi, it was based on this that the community decided to construct a road from Chaang to Janguasi by using their own labor.

The community is also constructing another 4-kilometer road from Chaang to Guri and 5-kilometer road from Chaang to Kajunguasi all in the Nadowli-Kaleo district.

This came to light when Katherine T. Lankono the Nadowli-Kaleo District Chief Executive, inspected the progress of work on the roads.

Madam Katherine said most of the people in the area are farmers and are into the production of cereals, legumes and tubers and as a result of lack of access roads in the area, the farmers encountered difficulties in conveying their produce to the market centers.

The DCE said while the government is fulfilling his promises to better the lot of the people, there is the need for the people to also reciprocate by honoring their tax obligations.

Madam Katherine commended the Assembly member of the area Hon. Romanus Jang for always organizing his people to take up self-initiative projects, she promised to do more to better the lives of the people in the Chaang community.

It was an opportunity where women of the community appealed to the DCE to use her office to facilitate the construction of a Dam for them to always have all year round farming in the community.

Responding to the appeal, Madam Katherine revealed that the construction of a Dam for the community will be factored into the One- Village- One -Dam policy to be implemented by the NPP Government.

The One-Village-One-Dam policy is one of the Akufo-Addo administration’s flagship programmes aimed at ensuring all year-round agriculture in the three regions of the north, through the construction of irrigation dams in every village in that part of the country.

Under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme in the 2017 budget, GHc94, 446,132 was earmarked for the One-Village-One-Dam policy.

One-Village-One-Dam policy forms part of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s key policy initiatives which are expected to cost over GHC2 billion.
