The Ghana Gas–Karpowership pipeline project is almost complete, and anticipated to flow its first gas by October this year.
Karpowership Ghana Company Limited announced this month that its 470MW Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan will be off the national grid as it finally relocates the powership to Takoradi in the Western Region .
The Powership will now be located at its new location within the Sekondi Naval Base.
“In light of the relocation, the Powership would be off the national grid for a maximum period of 17 days to enable us to carry out various pre-commissioning works to successfully connect to the 330kV transmission lines in Sekondi,” portions of the statement added.
The relocation is in line with government strategic policy for the Powership to utilize Natural Gas from the Western Enclave.
“This will save the government about $20 million dollars monthly,” said the Head of Corporate Communications for the Ghana Gas Company Limited, Ernest Owusu Bempah.
He says work done so far on the 11 kilometer gas pipeline from the Takoradi Regulating and Metering Station (TRMS), Aboadze to the 470MW Kardeniz Powership Osman Khan of the Karpowership Ghana Limited, stands at 85 percent and is expected to be completed by October.
Amandi Construction limited is the company contracted to build the gas pipeline installation to facilitate the supply of gas from the TRMS to the powership.
