SIM card retailers in Accra, Ghana, have recorded a decline in sales since the compulsory SIM card registration began in July 1, 2010. New SIM cards cannot
be used unless they are registered with the service
provider. The fact that telecommunications companies have
not made available registration agents at vantage places
as promised has added to the decline. Operators in the
country have to register all their existing and new
subscribers by June 11, 2011.
