Bolgatanga, Nov. 19, GNA- The Northern Area Manager of SSNIT, Mr Kofi Agyare has said SSNIT pays pensions until the death of the pensioner.
He said people who live up to 75 years can still enjoy their pension and pensions are reviewed every year and paid up.
He said with the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) pensioners whose monies have been deducted from SSNIT would enjoy the scheme without having to pay for any other scheme.
The Area Manager advised employers to make sure that data concerning their employees' contributions to SSNIT were up to date to validate and confirm their workers benefits to the NHIS.
Mr Agyare urged both employers and employees to visit SSNIT offices to correct or rectify the Identification Documents (ID) to enable employees to benefit from the scheme.
He warned people who keep changing their ages that SSNIT only knows the first birth date that was first submitted to the Scheme, adding that it is not a policy of SSNIT to continue to change date of birth. He said every data is programmed and so when change of birth was allowed it would throw the data over board.
The Head of Public Affairs Department, Mr K. Osei-Bimpong said SSNIT would intensify the prosecution of defaulters who are owing over 200 million cedis.
He said the scheme is by supporting members' needs and that there was no way it could write off debts.
He said companies that owe the Trust must pay or face legal action because their workers would hold SSNIT accountable when they retire.
Mr Osei-Bimpong disclosed that SSNIT has made it possible for Ghanaians who took loans and are staying outside the country to pay back their loan and urged relatives to encourage their wards who enjoyed the loans to pay back.
