SSNIT says 50 per cent of government departments, agencies default

Wa, May 2, GNA - The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) says it has come to its notice that 50 per cent of government departments, services and agencies in the three northern regions had not been paying their workers' contributions to the Trust. The Trust is therefore in the process of compiling the list of all the defaulters and put pressure on them to pay up.

Mr. Allan Azu, Area Manager responsible for the Tamale, Wa and Bolgatanga Branches of the SSNIT, made this known in Wa after a health walk organised for staff of the Trust at the weekend.

He said by that action, heads of the various defaulting departments, services and agencies were not only denying SSNIT of their workers' contributions to invest for future benefits of their workers but were also jeopardizing the security of their workers when they go on retirement.

Mr. Azu appealed to heads of departments to pay all their workers contributions to the Trust on monthly basis.

He said those who owed the Trust but have no money to pay, were allowed to come and negotiate with the Trust for amicable settlement. The Area Manager appealed to customers such as sachet water providers, non-governmental organisations, Internet service providers and petrol filling station operators as well as contractors to register their workers with the Trust, pointing out that the law enjoins them to have all their workers registered with the Trust. 02 May 11
