Thomas Nyarko Ampem is the Deputy Minister of Finance
The Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has announced a major breakthrough in the long-standing financial impasse between the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA).
In a statement shared via his Facebook page, Nyarko Ampem confirmed that after years of delayed or deferred payments, SSNIT has now begun fulfilling its full financial obligations to the NPRA.
He revealed that the resolution followed intensive negotiations between the two institutions, culminating in SSNIT’s adoption of a quarterly payment schedule to ensure regular and predictable transfers to the pensions regulator.
“I am happy to report that this situation has been successfully resolved. SSNIT has already made two complete quarterly payments this year, demonstrating its renewed commitment to compliance and to the stability of Ghana’s pensions regulatory framework,” he stated.

The development marks a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s pensions administration system, ensuring that both SSNIT and NPRA operate within a framework of transparency, accountability, and financial discipline.
Nyarko Ampem commended both institutions for their cooperation and reaffirmed government’s commitment to fostering institutional harmony within the pensions sector to safeguard the retirement benefits of workers across the country.
He added that the Ministry of Finance would continue to monitor compliance to sustain the progress achieved and ensure long-term financial sustainability within Ghana’s pensions ecosystem.
