The Second Lady of the Republic H.E Samira Bawumia has launched the "Obaapa" Micro Loan Scheme for Women in the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency of the Western Region.
The launch of the Scheme dubbed "Empowering Rural Women for Economic Development" is an initiative of the MP of the area who doubles as a Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi.
This initiative comes at the back of several others including the provision of water, renovation and expansion of the Prestea Government Hospital.
According to madam Oteng-Gyasi, financial scheme will be under the auspices of the Wassa Hemaa Foundation; an outfit which handles social intervention programmes undertaken by the minister in the region.
Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi added the Obaapa Micro Loan Scheme will extend small loans and other basic financial services to women that do not currently have access to capital.
"It’s a key strategy in helping women living in poverty to become financially independent, which will help them become more resilient and better able to provide and support their families in times of economic difficulty.
Considering nearly half the world survives on less than $2 a day, Obaapa Micro Loan scheme is a vital solution" she noted.
The MP, however, added that several other programmes are in the pipeline to help empower more women for the socio-economic development of the constituency.
