Technology giant, Samsung Electronics has launched on to the Ghanaian market, its latest devices: the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones.

The newest additions to the Galaxy family were launched in Accra at the weekend and are now available for purchase in the colours- black, white and gold; green and blue are expected to be in stores later, according to the company.

Mr Tetteh Akunnor, Products Manager of Samsung Ghana said in contrast to the use of plastic and glass in previous models, the company’s latest devices were made of Aluminium and 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4, capable of withstanding strain two times better than most smartphones.

The phones’ cameras, which he said could absorb 35 per cent more light than previous models, were instantly validated with clear, high quality photographs in a dimly lit environment.

The five-megapixel front camera could also snap smartly with a hand gesture at the screen, allowing users to take “selfies” without touching the screen.

Mr Akunnor said the cameras could open in just 0.7 seconds with a quick launch option and have optical image stabilisers that reduce blurring and produce clear shots when the phone is shaking or moving.

The Products Manager said the devices feature Samsung’s Ultra Power Saving mode and also support fast charging, which could offer up to four hours of usage after charging for only 10 minutes.

The Galaxy S6 edge, with the world’s first curved edge screen, could emit caller-specific lights on the edges, allowing users identify callers without touching the phone

The company said consumers who subscribe to Vodafone, MTN and Tigo would be entitled to free mobile data packages, while those on Airtel would receive free voice and SMS packages in addition.

Buyers would also receive discounts and special packages at eight shops and restaurants including Palace Shopping Mall, Silverbird Cinemas, Cup Cake Boutique, Le Magellan restaurant and Mama Mia restaurant.
