The Minister of Transport, Mrs. Dzifa Attivor, has directed operators of the two ferries on the Volta Lake to construct another landing site at Akrade and so offer comfort to commuters who travel on the ferries as a result of ongoing works on the Adomi Bridge.
Speaking at a familiarisation tour of the site at Senchi, Mrs. Attivor said her outfit will work to resolve problems that the closure of the bridge has imposed on commuters, and that the construction of an additional landing site is a way of shielding commuters from any discomfort during future eventualities.
“This problem with operations of the ferries must be solved once and for all; the operation of ferries doesn’t fall within my ministry, but I’m here because of the challenges this issue is posing to passengers.
"We need to get the technical experts and best advice on this development, and that is why I’m here together with personnel of the Ghana Maritime Authority and the Volta Lake Transport Company to help us solve the problem.
“I hope the construction of another wharf/landing site will enable the ferries to operate efficiently and offer convenience to the numerous passenger that use the Volta Lake,” she noted.
