September inflation falls to 9.4 per cent

Inflation dropped marginally by 0.1 percent to record 9.4 percent in September.

At the same time, the monthly change was -1.5 percent, meaning the general price levels went down by the aforementioned margin.

While food inflation was 4.4 percent last month, the non-food inflation, which saw transport recording the highest rate of 20.6 percent, was 12.4 percent.

Inflation in local food products was significantly lower than that of imported food products.

Explaining why inflation declined marginally in September, Dr. Philomena Nyarko, Acting Government Statistician, said “from the data we found that the major contributors to the food inflation rate of 4.4% were bread and cereals and meat subgroups.

Dr. Nyarko said clothing, footwear and transport subgroups contributed to the non-food inflation rate of 12. 4%.

Meanwhile, Central region continued to remain high as the region with the highest inflation rate of 11.3 percent followed by Greater Accra and Ashanti regions with 10.9 and 9.9 percent respectively.

Upper East and West recorded the least inflation of 6.6 percent.
