The city of Shenzhen in the Republic of China has launched a business promotion deal with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) that would focus on key economic priorities, mutual respect of partners and the sovereignty of each state.

The potential areas agreed on were bilateral partnership that would create favourable conditions for cooperation in the areas of science, business, culture, education and economic development.

It was also to study mutual opportunities to facilitate the development of joint ventures and to prepare exchanges in the field of industry and commerce.

Mr Wang Yuwen, the leader of the delegation and Deputy Director General, General Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipality, made this known when he led a six-member delegation to call on Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra.

He praised Ghana for its economic growth and said Shenzhen had a lot of experience to share with the business community that would help transform both China and Ghana relations.

Mr Yuwen, who is also the Vice President of Shenzshen People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, called for close collaboration between the two cities and a holistic approach to socio-economic development needs.

Dr Vanderpuije said the initiative was a confirmation of the importance of the government’s contribution to the private sector and this would assist in the implementation of strategic activities.

He expressed satisfaction at the way a newly created city since its establishment in 1979 was helping in the creation of jobs and reducing poverty in Shenzshen.

He said Ghana and China had been collaborating to implement a number of interventions towards rural development and poverty alleviation, adding that; “Ghana will apply best practices and get to where Chinese is.”
