A small-scale miner has raised serious concerns about the low government pricing of gold, which has been in effect since the launch of the Sammy Gyamfi-led Ghana GOLDBOD initiative.

The miner argued that while the government-regulated prices remain low, operational costs within the sector are steadily increasing, putting significant strain on their livelihoods, according to a post on X by Sika Official on August 6, 2025.

"Let my plea reach Sammy Gyamfi: when it comes to GOLDBOD, your role is to buy gold, not cassava. Your responsibility is clear — it's not just about Newmont gold or Obuasi gold, but about buying from us, the small-scale miners.

"When you were appointed, we (small-scale miners) believed the government would buy the gold to generate profits. Everyone understood that they should engage with GOLDBOD. But Sammy, where are you taking the gold issue? Is this your decision, or is Mahama influencing you? Please listen carefully, Sammy Gyamfi: regardless of how you sell the gold we provide, the costs associated with acquiring that gold have also increased," he said.

He further lamented;

"Do you expect us to bring gold business to your table and receive nothing in return? It’s a valid question. You deal in gold for the benefit of the country, and we all appreciate this work. Ghanaians have actively participated in the GOLDBOD initiative."

He then called for an urgent review of the current pricing structure to ensure the sustainability of their operations.

"Gold business is not easy. Reduce the price of diesel before you consider lowering the price of gold," he concluded.
