Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen says there are moves to decentralise government’s industrialisation agenda in order to spread trade to the doorstep of every Ghanaian.

This will also allow companies to extend their operations to rural communities. When the Ministry took its turn at the Meet the Press Series in Accra, Mr. Kyerematen said sectors such as the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, SME’s, are doing so well, citing UBER as an example.

He said checks in UBER’s financial books indicate an encouraging business which has the potential to grow bigger. However, the challenge according to the Trade Minister is the lack of support for SME’s which affects the sector as compared to those in the Western world.

Mr. Kyerematen announced that Africa now has one single market following the ratification of the Single Trade Agreement.

He said there are so many misunderstandings regarding the One District, One Factory, 1D1F, initiative which blurs the public’s views on the initiative. Mr. Kyerematen said the 1D1F programme is private sector led but facilitated by government.

This is why the private sector must be supported to make the programme viable in order to address social issues such as unemployment.
