Spacefon Increases Capacity In Wa

Wa, March 2, GNA - Spacefon subscribers in the Upper West Region can now heave a sigh of relief, since the management of Scancom Ghana Limited has installed a high capacity radio based station (RBS) to decongest the line.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa on Tuesday, Mr Selorm Kovi, regional representative of Spacefon said the old RBS could only take less than five hundred calls and with the beefing up with a bigger RBS, the lines were now decongested to enable subscribers call anytime, anywhere. He said although the new RBS was bigger than the old one, it still could not serve subscribers in other districts, apart from the Wa municipality.

Over five months ago, Spacefon subscribers in the region could not make internal calls and could only do that either early in the morning or deep in the night. As a result, subscribers threatened taking the company to court, while other groups threatened to vandalize their offices in the region. To avoid that, the management acted promptly, by sending technicians to change the RBS. With the use of the RBS, subscribers can now make calls anytime in the municipality.

Some of the customers the GNA spoke to, express satisfaction at the present performance, and pleaded with the management of the company to consider extending their operations to other districts of the region. " As a broadcaster, I would be happier if I can send information, news or whatever from any corner of the region to my radio station," Mr Tony Goode, a radio presenter told the GNA. Others called on the company to from time to time, carry out routine check-ups to avoid the recurrence of such problems. Mr Kovi, who conducted the GNA round the new installations promised that the problems would not be repeated and the company would work hard to extend their services to other districts.
