SCANCOM LTD, operators of Spacefon GSM, is to complete its expansion programme by the close of the year.
It had had to embark on an expansion following high demand for its services, particularly the snap prepaid account.
Under a phase 6 programme, Spacefon would expand its coverage in Accra and spread to the Northern Region to maintain its lead in the market.
Mr. Bader Moukadam, Ashanti Regional Manager of the company, who disclosed this to the Chronicle in an interview, Monday this week said by the expansion, Spacefon is trying to be better than other mobile service providers.
Moukadam explained that the company had to suspend its snap subscription until the expansion programme was completed because the system was full and could breakdown.
"Presently the system is overloaded", he said.
It is expected that subscribers would increase from the over 70,000 currently on completion of the programme.
Spacefon, as the leading mobile phone service provider, is currently covering Nsawam, Accra, Tema and Kumasi, Obuasi, Konongo, Bekwai and Ejisu in Ashanti.
In the Western Region, Spacefon covers Sekondi, Takoradi, Tarkwa and Bibiani.
