Spacephone to improve customer delivery service

Somanya, Jan. 22, GNA - A team of engineers from Scanscorm Limited, led by Mr David Gowu, a Cell Planning Engineer, was at Somanya on Friday to conduct feasibility studies on how best they could improve upon existing telephone facilities in the area.

The visit followed an appeal to the company by the Rev. Fred Simon Yebugah, Director of Literacy Drive and Development Movement (LDBM), an NGO on the need to solve the poor telephone reception in the area by Spacefone.

The team first paid a courtesy call on the Yilo Krobo District Assembly Co-ordinating Director, Mr Alex Adu Berkoh, who expressed concern about the difficulties they were having in making calls through the Spacephone, the only communication network in the area.

"More often than not, we are compelled to travel to Koforidua to transact very simple businesses as a result of the poor reception that the people, who use spacephones face", he said.

In response, Mr Gowu said the team observed that the problem in the area was as a result of "congestion" on the wavelength and said, upgrading the system could rectify it, adding, "we have some room to improve it".

He explained that when spacephone facilities were extended to the area two years ago, few people were using it but now more customers were patronizing the facilities, hence the area was over-loaded.

The team later visited the Based Transistor Station (BTS) located at the Mount Mary Training College to check its antennas.

Mr Gowu later told Ghana News Agency that another problem observed was that of low signal level in the area, adding that, only a few cells were serving the whole town and its environs.

He said, where the site was situated was far from the town and therefore there was the need for an additional BTS in the town, which the company would consider providing to save the subscribers from further hardships.
