Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 13 Oct. Standard Chartered Bank today presented pieces of office furniture valued at six million cedis to the Metropolitan Education Office of the Ghana Education Service in Accra. The items comprised 55 tables, 95 chairs, eight book shelves, seven cupboards and a conference table. Mr. Willing Vanderpuije, head of Corporate Affairs, said the bank see the donation as part of their social responsibility to support the efforts of the Metropolitan Education office. He said the Accra Metropolitan Assemby (AMA) should not be left alone to shoulder all the responsibilities in the metropolis and called on other institutions to share in the cost of running the education sector. Mr. Vanderpuije said the bank will invest in the health sector and focus on youth development. Mrs. Margaret Benneh, Metropolitan Director of Education, received the items and commended the donors for the assistance. She appealed to other institutions to help in providing photocopiers, electric typewriters and other office equipment.
