Statistical Service recruits undergo training

A twenty-one-day training workshop for 172 participants recruited by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) to carry out the Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES) phase-2 programme has opened at Koforidua.

The IBES is an Industrial establishment survey to provide a reliable, timely and relevant economic statistics to support formulation of policies and strategies that stimulate growth for the economy as well as provides data on production and employment in Ghana.

The 172 participants were selected through series of selection procedure, based on a minimum criteria of a Higher National Diploma (HND) and are expected to begin the exercise in November and end in December this year.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Kobina Abakah-Ansah, the Eastern Regional Statistician, explained that, the IBES phase-2, is a follow-up survey on the IBES phase -1, which yielded 63, 8480 business establishment in Ghana in both the formal and informal sector.

The IBES pahse-2 is a survey to be conducted on 30,152 establishments out of the 63,8480 yielded under the IBES pahse-1 to know the production level, employment and the general contribution of those sectors to the national economy.

According to him, the exercise would help the GSS revise and update survey of industry and other economic sectors, including the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Producer Price Index (PPI) and others.

In addition, he said the IBES phase-2 exercise would enable the GSS to come out with credible data on employment and services by industry and economic establishments that would be considered in policy formulation for the industrial sector.
