Stay off the pavements - AMA warns commercial motor riders

Rapid Commander for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Moses Abor has said the decongestion exercise is going smoothly as expected.

He told Nyankonton Mu Nsem that, although AMA has cleared hawkers on the pavements, some motor riders have taken advantage of the situation to ply their trader on the pavements.

He said the exercise will not be a nine day wonder but sustained to ensure that, President Akufo-Addo’s declaration to make Accra the cleanest city will be achieved.

He warned motor riders using their motors for commercial purposes to stay off the pavements.

He said ''we will clamp down on these riders and clear them off the pavements.''

He said the Mayor wants to run Circle on a 24-hour basis with no trading or hawking on the pavements.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Monday morning carried out a decongestion exercise across the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra to clear the streets, particularly pavements of traders.

The exercise, which started at about 4am saw members of AMA’s Taskforce breaking down unauthorized structures mounted on pavements and other unauthorized places by the traders.
