Stop Cargo Tracking Note – GIFF to government

The President of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), Kwabena Ofosu-Appiah, has issued a one-week ultimatum to government to stop the implementation of the Cargo Tracking Note (CTN).

He said failure by the government to respond positively to their concerns, will result in a sit-down strike of GIFF’s 3,000 members.

At a joint press conference with the Association of Custom House Agents of Ghana, Custom Brokers Association of Ghana and the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, GIFF said that the CTN is a threat to national security since it is not known to all the trade platforms including the Ghana Community Network (GCN).

According to him, the CTN is championed by some self-seeking individuals at the expense of shippers.

He was of the view that the CTN is not different from the Advanced Information System (ASHI) which was introduced in 2012.

Meanwhile, the President of the Chamber of Freight and Trade, Dennis Anfoh-Sefah, at a counter-press conference disagreed.

According to him, the CTN is different from the Advanced Information System module (ASHI) and advantageous.

He said the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) needs to connect the CTN to all trade platforms and shippers will be good to go.

He said the introduction of the CTN is in the right direction and called on his colleagues to rescind their decision to embark on a strike.
