Newmont Ghana has reinstated the two staff who were interdicted last week and the development has led to the resumption of full operations by its staff.

The head of External Affairs and Communications at Newmont Ghana Adiki Ayitevie confirmed the news to Starr News, adding the interdicted staff “have been written to, to resume work.”

A week ago the workers staged a sit-down strike over the interdiction of two workers and service conditions.

Following the intervention of the Employment and Labour Relations Minister Haruna Iddrisu, the management of Newmont and its staff reached a deal.

“We have resumed work… based on the outcome of the meeting with the minister we have recalled the two [staff],” Ayitevie confirmed.

Relationship between workers of Newmont Ghana and management has been frosty over salary and other working conditions.

The workers’ posturing compelled management to interdict the two staff, but the labour minister acted swiftly to resolve the impasse.

The mining company paid Gh¢384 million in taxes to the Ghana government in 2014.
