Artisans at the country’s largest industrial hub, Suame Magazine in the Ashanti Region, have threatened to embark on a demonstration if the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) does not come out clear on its load management schedule.

According to the artisans, the Company is not honouring its pledge to exempt industries from the load shedding exercise.

Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Tuesday, November 18, Chairman of Suame Magazine’s Zone A Kwabena Yeboah says they are serving notice to hit the streets in the Ashanti Region if ECG does not respond to their demand.

“We are not kids, in Kumasi. We pay tax,” Mr Yeboah said in Akan.

“This must change,” he added, raising concerns that the engagement of a task force in the impending mass disconnection exercise is what triggered their decision.

ECG has recently come under fire for its relatively unknown Automatic Frequency Load Mechanism (AFLM), which turns off power when there is the slightest shortfall.

Residents of Tabora-Lapaz and Odorkor on Monday went on rampage and wreaked havoc on property of ECG for frequent outages.
