Ho, Mar 19, GNA- West African Accountancy Technicians (WAAT), an umbrella body to integrate and rationalise the activities of accountancy professionals in the sub-region would soon be established in Ghana, Mr Frank Torblu, National President of Chartered Accountants Students Society (CASS) said on Friday.
He said the body, which would be affiliated to Ghana Accountancy Technicians (GAT) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA) would co-ordinate the accountancy competencies of member states towards making their examination and certificate more credible to compete along the lines of ICA, England and Wales.
Mr Torblu who made this remark at the inauguration of the Ho Polytechnic Chapter of CASS in Ho on Friday, urged the students to dispel the notion that GAT was not recognised beyond the country. He told them that GAT draws its strength from the ICA, England and Wales, which happened to the most reliable accountancy institutions worldwide.
"I am re-assuring that GAT is accepted worldwide so be ready to defend it", he said.
Mr Torblu, therefore, urged the students to shun inferiority complexes and negative stereotypes and commit themselves to hard work and with determination to achieve excellence in their chosen professional enterprise.
He made a fervent appeal to government to increase the annual subvention to the Institute and also assist it construct Accountancy Training schools in all regional capitals to avoid unfair distribution of qualified accounting personnel in the country, as a step in making GAT highly marketable.
Mr Atsu Kpewu, Volta Regional President of CASS commended ICA, Ghana for decentralising the GAT examinations, which he said had increased the enrolment of prospective accountants in the region.
He exhorted the students to strive hard and sustain the Association since there were enormous benefits to be derived.
A seven-member executive of CASS chaired by Mr Hilary Pra were sworn into office. He pledged on behalf of his colleagues to justify the gesture reposed in them.
