Subah Infosolutions, Ghana’s leading IT and telecommunications solution provider says it is putting in place practical measures to address the dire shortage of ICT skills in the country.

The company believes Information Communication Technology (ICT) will soon become one of the fastest growing job markets in the world as it covers almost every aspect of our daily lives.

In an interview with GhanaWeb on the sidelines of the opening of Africa Mobile & ICT Expo 2015 in Accra on Wednesday, Managing Director of Subah Infosolutions, Mr Birendra Sasmal, said the shortage of ICT skills, especially among the youth is impeding the growth of Ghana’s development.

In his estimation, improvement of ICT skills in the country could immensely contribute to the strengthening of major sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

Mr Sasmal said in the light of the deficiency, his outfit has committed sufficient resources in the training of school going children at the basic level, to propel them to greater heights in future.

“Subah last year devoted lots of resources in the training of school children at the basic level. And we managed to develop the skills of almost 600 children so we are making significant progress on that front,” Mr Sasmal submitted.

He, however, revealed that plans are afoot to increase the number of trainees from 600 to 1,000 by the end of the year.

“As a developing country there’s deficiency, but the youth are also interested in ICT so we need to work and develop those who are interested in developing their skills that is why we have targeted at least 1,000 people this year,” the managing director disclosed.

The company is a member of the Jospong Group. Subah’s business strategy seeks to explore a combination of world-class collaboration with leading technology companies for joint execution of projects.

The three-day Expo being organised by Coasters Company Limited in partnership with the Ministry of Communications opened on July 29 and would run till July 31.

The event, which brought together investors and industry watchers was aimed at discussing and identifying the opportunities of job creation, investments and provide solutions to societal challenges.

The event has four main thematic areas “Thought Leadership, Appworld, Job fair and Exhibition”.

Subah Infosolutions is one of the major sponsors of the event.
