The aim of the policy is to ensure that Ghana
Government has called on private organisations to submit proposals and programmes for the start of the One-District-One-Factory policy.
This follows the release of a total amount of GHS456million for the execution of the policy.
The aim of the policy, according to government, is to ensure that Ghana’s ongoing industrialisation drive spreads to every part of the country, as opposed to the hitherto situation where the vast majority of manufacturing facilities are located in the five largest urban areas, namely Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale.
This, according to industry players, will help reduce the cost of doing business by providing shared industry resources and revenues.
Speaking at the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference, the Head of Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Pardi Adjirakor, called on business owners and the private sector to come out with their proposals to engage in the One-District-One-Factory policy.
“The One-District-One-Factory, I’m happy to tell you the money that we budgeted for has been granted and now we are in the process of formulating the policies in regard to One-District-One-Factory. As you may be very well aware, the ministry is the primary agent of government to facilitate development and transformation of the government agenda of making sure that every district will have at least a flagship project and since we are responsible for value addition and processing, we would support all those things. So come with your programme or proposals and then the ministry will sit down with you and then see how they will develop it into a reality,” he stated.
“You are at this time welcomed to bring your proposals and then the ministry will sit down one on one with you and see how best together we can prosecute it.”
