A mobile phone distribution firm, TD Mobile has been unveiled as the sole distributor of Nokia devices in Ghana.

The Nigeria-based company which is looking to break into the Ghanaian mobile phone market has been given the authorization by HMD Global, manufacturers of Nokia devices to be their sole distributor in the country.

The event which was held at the plush Villa Monticello Hotel in Accra had in attendance the Managing Director (MD) of TD Mobile, MD for Nokia West and Central Africa, government officials and technology giants from both Ghana and Nigeria.

Speaking at the launch, the MD of Distribution Technology Mobile, Mrs. Gozy Ijogun expressed her delight in TD Mobile’s arrival in Ghana with the aim of becoming leaders in smartphone distribution in Ghana.

According to Mrs. Ijogun, the underwhelming rate of smartphone penetration in the country vis-à-vis the country’s impressive literacy rate makes it favourable for her outfit to thrive.

She disclosed that TD Mobile has identified a huge gap smartphone business in the country and are ready to bridge that gap.

She said, “Ghana has remained a major focus country in our expansionary plans. Despite the favourable indices and the huge potential in the country, it will interest you to note that smartphone penetration in Ghana hovers around 21percent.”

“This can best be described as anomaly because the average Ghanaian is aspirational and technologically aware. Furthermore the literacy level in Ghana is actually one of the best in Africa with a commendable 76.6 percent. Considering the foregoing statistics, Ghana should actually be in the lead for technology diffusion in Africa. This is the identified gap that TD Mobile has come to fill,” she added.

The Managing Director of Nokia West and Central Africa, Joseph Umanakwe commended TD Mobile for being trustworthy, committed partners and for being the only company given license to distribute Nokia devices in the country.

Set up in Nigeria, two years ago, TD Mobile has gained a reputation as a distributor of genuine mobile devices sourced from original equipment manufacturers.

Their presence in Ghana is set to boost the competition in the mobile phone distribution market.
