TEWU announces resumption of strike

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) is poised to begin a nationwide strike today, Monday, November 18, barring any last-minute interventions.

The industrial action is in response to what TEWU describes as the government’s persistent failure to address long-standing concerns regarding members' conditions of service.

Union members have voiced frustration over repeated delays in finalizing, signing, and implementing the revised conditions, despite years of negotiations.

In its statement, TEWU highlighted that the affected members include employees of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, as well as public technical universities and public universities across the country.

Meanwhile, the National Labour Commission (NLC) on Friday urged TEWU to reconsider its decision to strike, inviting the union to return to the negotiation table.

The NLC has scheduled a meeting with TEWU and other relevant stakeholders for Wednesday, November 20, 2024, to seek a resolution to the issue.

But, TEWU has not yet responded to the NLC's invitation.
