Frustration over the prolonged delay in finalising and implementing Conditions of Service agreements for members within the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), Museums and Monuments Board, Public Technical Universities and Public Universities is pressuring the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of Trade Union Congress-Ghana (TUC) to announce a possible industrial action if matters are not resolved quickly.

Negotiations for these service conditions have spanned several years without resolution. The union has expressed disappointment over government agencies’ inability to conclude the process despite years of review negotiations.

As the new academic year progresses, TEWU highlighted that its members – particularly those involved in admission processes for first-year students who are entering various institutions – are operating under increasingly uncertain service conditions.

It is in this regard that the union says if the government does not act swiftly, an indefinite strike will commence on November 18, 2024. Therefore, a timely response from authorities to ensure stability within educational institutions across the country is required; that’s why TEWU is serving notice to avert any avoidable negative circumstances.
