TUC to work with Akufo-Addo’s gov't to protect workers’ interest

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) says it is ready to cooperate with the next government under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo to protect the interest of workers and their families.

A press release signed by TUC General Secretary, Yaw Baah, organized labour was hopeful that together with the new administration, the TUC would ensure that vulnerable groups in society like persons with disability, domestic workers, informal economy workers, women and young workers are protected.

“We congratulate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP on their electoral victory. The TUC and Organised Labour stand ready to work with the new administration to ensure that the economy of Ghana continues on a path of growth and that the interest of workers and their families are fully protected.”

Also, the TUC commended President John Dramani Mahama for graciously conceding defeat in the December 7 presidential election.

The statement also acknowledged TUC’s relationship with the outing government, and promised to offer the necessary support to the new administration on the implementation of the new pay policy.

“To H.E. President John Mahama, we say ayekoo! You have demonstrated that you’re truly a man of peace. Your timely concession of electoral defeat has kept the peace we are all enjoying today.

“We noted that in your concession speech you acknowledged the contribution of Organised Labour in the development of Ghana during your administration. We appreciate that very much. We can assure you that we will work with the new administration to build on what we achieved together especially in the implementation of the single spine pay policy and the three-tier pension system. We wish you very well in all your future endeavours!”

In acknowledging contributions by the various stakeholders including the Electoral Commission for organizing one of the most peace elections in the country, the TUC single out the security for commendation.

“Finally, we would like to thank all the security agencies for ensuring peace in Ghana before, during and after the elections. They have made us proud as workers. All the security agencies deserve to be rewarded handsomely for their commitment and dedication to duty. We believe that together we can push Ghana forward in a positive direction.”
