Tax consultant and fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation Ghana; Abdallah Ali-Nakyea has urged tax consultants to stop conniving with their clients to rob the state.
Ali-Nakyea; who is also the Managing Partner of Ali-Nakyea & Associates explained tax consultants must introduce their clients to tax planning where the consultant helps the client put his or her tax affairs in order while also introducing the client to existing benefits or incentives the client qualifies to access and enjoy.
He noted companies or factories situated in regional capitals enjoy 25 percent tax rebates with those erected in rural areas or the countryside enjoying a 50 percent tax rebate.
Abdallah Ali-Nakyea stated even with tax avoidance, a competent consultant can research and help his client pay lower tax legally noting “it is when you evade tax that one becomes liable for prosecution.”
“For some practitioners, even before qualifying to practice, there was no oil and gas industry but there is now requiring tax practitioners to acquaint themselves with new polices and laws thorough workshops and seminars to stay updated of trends,” the tax capo noted.
He called on tax practitioners to file their tax returns this month to set as example for others to follow.
