Teachers in Upper West unhappy about ADB

Wa, July 16, GNA - Teachers in the Upper West Region who are customers of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) have warned they would leave the bank en bloc if, what they termed the use of indecent language and mockery by bank officials on them, continued. Mr Cletus Paaga, Upper West Regional Director of Ghana Education Service (GES), who issued the warning, said he had taken up the issue with the Bank's management.

"If this still persists, I will take all my teachers out of the Bank and I will ask district directors of GES not to sign any collateral for those who would refuse to join our action", he told a meeting of teachers from the entire Wa area.

Mr Paaga explained that on many occasions, teachers stayed in the bank for long hours leaving the classroom unattended to, a situation he said was affecting the schools' performance in the final examinations. "Payment of our salaries are always delayed and this is having a negative impact on our pupils," a teacher told the Ghana News Agency. In an interview with the GNA, Mr Emmanuel Abukyi, branch Manager of the ADB, attributed the reported slow process at the Bank to a recent computerisation of their operations, saying the staff needed to work with caution, especially when processing salaries.

Besides, the Bank is grappling with a problem of inadequate staff to service about 4,000 customers monthly, he added. 16 Jul. 07
