The Techiman Municipal Assembly realised GH¢490,963 between January to August, representing 38.2 per cent out of its targeted GH¢1,285,410 Internally Generated Fund (IGF) this year.
Mr. Alex Kofi Kyeremeh, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, announced at the 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Techiman on Wednesday.
He attributed the low revenue mobilisation to poor rainfall pattern this year, inability of revenue collectors to live up to expectation and collection of multiple levies from the markets through middlemen.
Mr. Kyeremeh pointed out that the multiple levies resulted in increase in the prices of farm produce that forced most of the traders to patronise Kintampo, Nkoranza and Wenchi markets where the prices were comparatively low at the expense of the Techiman market.
He said measures being instituted to improve revenue mobilization include reshuffling the revenue collectors from their areas of work to monitor their performance as well as capacity building programmes.
In addition, national service personnel would be engaged to augment the work of revenue collectors as well as prudent management of their resources.
Mr. Charles .K. Dondieu, Techiman Municipal Co-ordinating Director reminded the assembly members to submit their questions to the authority to ensure satisfactory answers during their deliberations.
Mr. Adjei Mensah, Presiding Member of the Assembly, urged members to educate the citizenry to refrain from intemperate language and other vices that would mar the prevailing peace in the Municipality.
