Mr Isaac Ashai Odamteen, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), says the Metropolis is well prepared to contribute meaningfully to the transformation of agriculture along the value chain in the crops, livestock and fisheries sectors.
According to him, apart from the fact that Tema is the industrial and maritime hub of the country, it also has a vibrant agricultural sector and people with the resources, creativity and skills to make agriculture a more valuable enterprise.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Odamteen said the transformation of the country’s agriculture should at least include the modernization of its productive systems and the expansion and promotion of agro-industries and agro business.
He said these would bring about increased sustainable productivity, creation and expansion of decent jobs and incomes for improved livelihoods across the nation.
The MCE called for transformative institutions that would nurture and harness strategic leadership at all levels to bring about right priority setting in order to get things done.
“I think that we can achieve the transformative objective by having investment-driven strategic partnerships with the private sector and developing marketing reforms to help our local farmers and fishers and also come up with an innovative system of financing agriculture.
