Accra, July 25, GNA - Workers of the Tema District Council of Labour (TDCL) has called off a demonstration scheduled for Tema on Wednesday, July 27 following the intervention of Mr Joseph Kofi Adda, Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment.
A statement signed by Mr Kofi Aggrey, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, said a series of meetings the Minister had with the Leadership of Organized Labour resulted in the cancellation of the intended demonstration.
It added that efforts were being made to resolve the issues involved to the satisfaction of all concerned.
The statement said since TDCL and organized labour expressed dissatisfaction with the increase in prices of petroleum products Government representatives had been meeting with them frequently to resolve the issues and sustain the existing industrial harmony. There had been meetings at various times between the Ghana Trades Union Congress and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and Ministry of Energy on the issue, the statement said.
It said the Minister also interacted with the Leadership of Organized Labour during the Founders' Conference of the Union of Industries, Commerce and Finance (UNICOF) held in Kumasi recently.
