The country’s quest for a third Hydro-electric dam to complement her energy has been given a further boost. Ten more multi-national investors comprising foreign and local companies have shown interest in the Bui hydro-electric generation project in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

This brings to 21, the number of companies which have expressed interest. It is recalled that on 25 July, the ‘Times” published that eleven companies had shown interest in reactivating the project.

The dam, when completed would become the third hydro-electric facility in the country after the Akosombo and Kpong Dams both in the Eastern Region. Mr YN. Oppong, chairman of the Bui Dam Development Committee, disclosed these to the ‘Times’ in Accra on Friday and said that the Committee would start receiving proposals from the companies in the middle of November.

Mr Oppong said that following a visit to the Bui Dam project sited by some foreign investors about three months ago, the interested parties formed a consortium and started drawing up proposals for the project.

He, however, declined to give further details and asked the ‘Times’ to wait until the proposals were submitted. The Bui Dam Development Committee had been contracted as consultants for the project on half of the sector ministries and agencies responsible for energy.
