Ghana?s dream of becoming a major player in the international textile industry, particularly in the United States market, received a major boost following the signing of memorandum of understanding between Robinson Outdoor Incorporated/Whitewater, a vendor of Wallmart chain stores in the US and Belin Textiles International (BTI), a Ghanaian joint venture garments maker.
The agreement, which was brokered by Global Integrated Development Group (GIGD), a US marketing agent, allows Belin to supply a million pieces of garments valued at between $4 and $5 million to Whitewater for supply in the US market.
Although Belin a 50-50 joint venture between the Governments of Ghana and Mauritius has the ultimate order, it will involve other garments and textiles companies under the president?s special initiative on garments as well as those under the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), such as Premium Quality Garments Company.
Belin is already producing a $500,000 order for its partner in the US.
