There is a conducive environment in agriculture - Kwesi Ahwoi

Mankrong (C/R), Sept. 12, GNA - Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, Food and Agriculture Minister, has called on graduates and school leavers to take advantage and join the conducive environment created in the agricultural sector by the government.

He said the Agriculture sector has received plenty social interventions that needed to be explored by the young graduates for their benefits.

Mr Ahwoi who is also an aspiring parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s Agona East Constituency, made this known when he addressed some youth of the party at Agona Mankrong.

He said the Agric Ministry has created funds which cater for the youth willing to enter into farming and that there is also some assistance for graduates who have completed universities, polytechnics, secondary schools and wish to enter into farming.

Mr Ahwoi said the recent three billion loan facility approved by Parliament from the Chinese Government has a component earmarked to support the creation of irrigations and other credit facilities to assist farmers.

He said this would serve as a great advantage for the youth to enter into farming and help prevent rural-urban migration.

Mr Ahwoi expressed the hope that the young graduates would opt for agriculture because of its new policies to enable them become self-reliant.

Mr Ahwoi commended the 2010 National Best Farmer who graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for his quick decision to enter into farming after the completion of his studies.

He said his ministry would continue to create more opportunities that would help the farmers in the country increase food production and also for export.
