There’s enough chocolate for Val’s Day – CPC

The Management of the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) has assured that there would be enough supply of chocolate products ahead of this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration.

February 14, every year, is Saint Valentine’s Day and has been declared a “National Chocolate Day” by the government of Ghana to highlight the nutritional benefits of Cocoa, the mainstay of the economy, and to encourage the people to consume more of cocoa products especially locally manufactured chocolate.

Speaking in an interview with Class Business ahead of the Valentine’s Day celebration, Managing Director of CPC, Nana Agyenim Boateng said there is enough of cocoa products especially chocolate to mark the day.

He said: “Aside the normal chocolate, we’ve introduced additional chocolates and that is the artisanal chocolates. This is the time of love where people do hampers but hitherto, we had this huge market where people would have imported these chocolates into town…

“During Christmas in 2017, we had as much as $45 million worth of different chocolates used for hampers coming into Ghana and we challenged ourselves to see what we can do and that’s why we introduced this heritage chocolate product, and ever since last year, we’ve not had that shortage and within the last three or four weeks, we’ve been distributing over 4000 cartons almost every week and every 100 cartons make a ton, so, that is how we are looking at the consumption…

“We are still producing and we are still selling so this year has been good.”
