Tigo Ghana will be sponsoring the Otumfuo Teachers and Educational workers awards.
The event which is scheduled for Wednesday 27th April 2011 is to reward deserving teachers and educational workers in the rural areas in Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Eastern regions.
The maiden awards which is supervised by the Ghana education service will reward 200 teachers and educational workers.
Speaking in Accra, Kwamena Buckman, Brand Assistant Tigo, said sponsorhip of the awards is in line with the company’s CSR agenda of improving quality in education.
He said the company does this through refurbishing of schools and in this case rewarding excellence in teaching.
Currently the company has invested in Education by refurbishing roofs for Nima Cluster of schools, constructing a two classroom block for the opportunities industrialization center and the distribution of Boots and Books to children from under privileged neighborhoods.
In Asanteman specifically we have been involved in the areas of Health and Education; Constructing a reproductive and child Hospital unit in Nyinahin and finally in discussion to construct a kitchen complex for Anglican Women’s vocational Institute at Nkawie.
He was hopeful that both the Nkawie and Nyinahin projects will be commissioned in the not too distant future.
He thanked Otumfuo for inviting Tigo Ghana to be part of such great initiative.
We are grateful and wish to assure him, teachers and educational workers that, Tigo Ghana can be always be counted on as a partner as we seek to drive excellence in educationit is our feverent wish that these awards will encourage teachers to accept postings into these deprived communities which invariably should lift the standards of learning in these areas.
